A report on “Accessibility Metadata for International Distribution and Export”

What's new

Accessibility Metadata for International Distribution and Export report is now online! Discoverability and distribution have been identified as major challenges in accessible publishing. Providing print-impaired readers with information about accessibility features of a digital publication is one of the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA). The report will provide guidance on producing, distributing, and displaying accessibility metadata for digital book sales in the European market.

The report is prepared by Fondazione LIA and it is published by the Association of Canadian University Presses (ACUP-APUC), the collective voice of French – and English – language scholarly publishing in Canada, with the support and collaboration of Livres Canada Books, the national association of the Canadian book publishing industry for promoting export sales.

Authors of the report are: Gregorio Pellegrino (Chief Accessibility Officer at LIA and Co-editor w3C “User Experience Guide for Displaying Accessibility Metadata”), Elisa Molinari (Project Manager at LIA) and Cristina Mussinelli (Secretary General at LIA).

The collaboration between Livres Canada Books and LIA

The attention to the theme of accessibility in Canada is part of a wider program, announced in 2019 by the government with an investment to support and encourage the production and distribution of accessible digital books in the national publishing industry.

The collaboration between Livres Canada Books and Fondazione LIA began at the end of 2020 with a series of webinars. From this collaboration, a previous report was published in 2021: The European Accessibility Act and Its Impact on the Publishing Industry.
