Audi Italia and Fondazione LIA: a project for more accessible digital catalogs
What's new
As part of its digital evolution journey and its focus on content accessibility, Audi Italia has launched a project aimed at making some of its digital catalogs more usable by all users.
The initiative, carried out by Fondazione LIA on behalf of the agency Arsenalia, is part of Audi’s broader commitment to inclusive digital communication in line with the most recent accessibility standards.
Fondazione LIA worked on the PDFs of some Audi catalogs, making them readable and navigable through the main assistive technologies used by people with disabilities, and compliant with the relevant international standards (WCAG 2.2 for PDFs and EN 301 549 for non-web documents).
The goal was to combine the graphic and editorial quality of the materials with an inclusive document structure, through semantic tagging of content and the definition of a coherent reading order, so as to enable effective navigation even for those using tools such as Braille displays and screen readers.
Particular attention was also given to checking color contrast, to ensure easy reading for people with low vision, and to creating alternative text descriptions for the images featured in the catalogs, allowing blind readers to better access the visual content as well.
Since the project covered catalogs for different models, it was also essential to ensure consistency in how content and alternative descriptions were organized, in order to offer a coherent and uniform browsing experience across all the documents.

Making communication tools such as product catalogs accessible means expanding opportunities to access information and fostering a more inclusive experience for an ever-wider audience. This approach confirms that accessibility is not just a technical requirement, but also a quality element capable of enriching the overall experience of people who interact with the brand.
