Final Public Draft of the Accessibility Metadata Display Guide for Digital Publications 2.0 now available for review
What's new
The Accessibility Task Force of the W3C Publishing Community Group just released the Third and Final Public Draft of the Accessibility Metadata Display Guide for Digital Publications 2.0.
Gregorio Pellegrino, LIA’s Chief Accessibility Officer and co-editor of the document explains: it is a significant milestone in our efforts to make ebooks accessible to all readers, as they offer valuable guidance on how to present ebook accessibility information clearly and consistently across different distribution channels (such as online bookstores, platforms, and reading apps) to the end users. Our goal is that for the same accessible digital publication, the end user can find the same accessibility information across the different distribution platforms where it is available.
The following diagram depicts how these guidelines relate to the format-specific techniques in the process of receiving and displaying accessibility metadata.
A significant aspect of this release is that along with the documents, the first official list of sentences that will be shown to end users (based on the publication accessibility metadata) has also been published. This is an important step for all implementers are working on displaying accessibility metadata in their portals. The list of sentences, each one available in a compact and descriptive format, is in English; Fondazione LIA will take care of the Italian translation.
