Casalini Libri is now member of LIA. The next accessibility goals of this partnership

Casalini Libri is delighted to announce that it has become a member of Fondazione LIA. Through membership of the foundation, Casalini Libri confirms and intensifies its support for Fondazione LIA’s activities and projects and its dedication to promoting the culture of accessibility.
This step is the culmination of a long-standing and rewarding collaboration which began with the audit of the Torrossa digital publishing distribution platform in 2021 and which has already brought significant results, achieving compliance with international accessibility standards well before the coming introduction, on 28th June 2025, of the European Accessibility Act.
Casalini Libri, today, works towards the key objectives of expanding its catalogue of accessible content and improving user experience, specifically for the navigation of its platform and the reading of texts in digital formats. Torrossa currently hosts e-books and e-journals from over 580 publishers worldwide. The catalogue is constantly augmented with publications and to date counts more than 1 million digital texts.
Fondazione LIA has been working for over 10 years to support publishers in the process of creating accessible digital publications and collaborates with all those involved in the publishing chain to make the experience of choosing, purchasing and reading books accessible for all readers.
“Together with Fondazione LIA we intend to contribute to the definition of a virtuous publishing ecosystem, which promotes innovative reading experiences for all users, including those who choose to use assistive technologies,” said Luisa Gaggini, head of the Casalini Libri Digital Division. “As well as enabling us to cater for a wider audience of readers,” continued Gaggini, “being compliant with accessibility requirements make it possible for us to improve the usability of our websites and web platforms for all users. Being a qualified supplier who fulfils the requirements of the sector consequently gives us the opportunity to participate in public procurement procedures and negotiations.”
“Casalini’s entry as a member of the Foundation”, said Cristina Mussinelli, Secretary General of Fondazione LIA, “has a special value for us, both for our fruitful relationship in these years when accessibility received little consideration in the publishing sector, and because the new collaboration will allow us to expand on the work done so far to reach and include the publishers who use Casalini’s services and to enhance the commitment of Italian publishers to accessibility in all of the foreign markets in which they operate.”
The next goals will be to work together to provide users with complete information describing the accessibility characteristics of publications, thanks to the adoption – both on the Torrossa platform and on the Torrossa Reader application – of accessibility metadata that meet international standards, thus providing an additional service and empowering everyone to make intentional choices on what to read.
