The next Ask the Expert event is focused on the accessibility of reading apps
Conferences
As the European Accessibility Act enters into force on June 28th, 2025 promises to be a strategic and crucial year in the accessibility landscape.
The APACE project, led by Fondazione LIA, aims to strengthen the preparation of the European publishing industry in the field of accessibility by proposing capacity building initiatives, including training and in-depth events for all professionals in the sector. One of the purposes of the project is in fact to reduce the existing skills gap and to contribute to the training of a new generation of accessibility experts. The “Ask the Expert”, an event format launched in September 2024 and now in its fourth edition, responds precisely to the publishing industry’s needs which emerged from the Analysis of Skills Gap (October 2024).
Each “Ask the Expert” is a one-hour webinar that allows participants to learn more about a specific topic and ask questions to the experts involved. In the registration form, participants are invited to submit questions related to the subject of the event in advance.
Ask the expert: the next event
Reading apps and accessibility
February 25th, 11am (CET)
Zoom Webinar in English
A reading system, which could be an app, a website, or an hardware device, is needed to read digital publications. Readers can vary in their features and functionality. In this online session we will give you an idea of the different reading systems, what their features are and which of those features are useful for persons with print impairment.
Participants will have the opportunity to deepen their understanding of the topic and ask questions to Richard Orme, CEO of the DAISY Consortium, a global consortium of organisations committed to creating tools and standards to make information accessible for persons with print impairment. In one of their more recent projects, DAISY delivered authoritative evaluations of EPUB reading systems to reveal the user experience for people with the most common reading disabilities. Fondazione LIA translated this project for Italian users.
The event will be hosted by Katie Durand (Fédération des Aveugles et Amblyopes de France).
